THE CHALLENGE

The project required the installation of a new combined services route for a western rail line duplication effort, facing a significant obstacle due to the area being contaminated with Category D waste. Traditional trenching methods for this utility integration would incur a prohibitive cost of $2.5 million for waste removal and disposal, posing both financial and environmental challenges.

OUR SOLUTION

Livic Underground Constructions proposed an innovative drilling solution to circumvent the high costs and environmental risks associated with moving contaminated soil.

By strategically drilling at specific entry and exit points and maintaining the bore depth beneath the contamination layer, our approach necessitated the removal of only clean, uncontaminated material.

This method effectively minimised direct interaction with the contaminated zone, ensuring the safe and efficient installation of the combined services route.

THE RESULTS

Implementing the drilling solution resulted in a dramatic cost reduction, slashing potential expenses from millions to a few hundred thousand dollars.

This approach not only preserved financial resources but also mitigated environmental impact, enabling the seamless continuation of the rail yard duplication project.

Our expertise in delivering such a cost-effective and environmentally considerate solution underscored Livic Underground Constructions’ role as a leader in innovative infrastructure development, particularly in challenging and sensitive environments.
